World Thalassemia Day
On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day today, SDMH organized a free Thalassemia Screening and Cultural Programme in association with “Thalassemia Children Society”.
Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that causes haemoglobin deficiency and severe anaemia, starving organs of oxygen, which inhibits their ability to function properly. Thalassemic major patients need the regular blood transfusion and remain on medication.
SDMH has been providing subsidized treatment to Thalassemic Children at its centre under the supervision of Dr Rajiv Bansal, HOD, Dept. of Pediatrics.
