The Medicine Department is the backbone of patient care in any hospital. The department of General Medicine has been in existence at SDMH since its inception 1971. On an average this department alone looks after around 15 percent of OPD load daily. At present there are three units & four consultants, covering emergencies 24 X 7, with one unit being available on rotation every day. All General Medical emergencies, critical as well as routine are looked after in time. All routine procedure like pleural tapping, lumbar puncture, ascitic tapping is routinely available. Each unit has special interest in treating patients of different specialty like diabetes, rheumatology immunology, critical care & sepsis etc. The S.D.M.H. Department of General Medicine is among the first few recognized for routinely teaching & training of DNB candidates since as early as 1990s.
