Department of Pediatrics & Neonatology is a unique setup functioning since 1973 as a tertiary referral centre for needs of all babies and children till 18 years of age. The centre is recognized for its quality work not only in Rajasthan, but also in neighboring states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh. The unit is known to provide complete, compassionate, state-of-the-art healthcare services for pediatric patients who have special health care needs that are different from adults. The department of pediatrics has a 26 bedded child friendly dedicated general Pediatric Ward with a separate play area for children. A 15-bedded state of art Pediatric ICU and Step Down Unit provides intensive care support with latest multifunctional monitors, ventilators, portable EEG and round the clock Pediatric Intensivist cover. The Neonatal unit is also a busy 16-bed tertiary referral unit under supervision of Senior Pediatricians and Neonatologist. The Department also has a well established Thalassemia unit. A separate 6 bedded Thalassemia unit provides treatment to the Thalassemics coming from various districts of Rajasthan & Haryana. The department is also well supported with 24 hour cover by DNB Pediatric Resident (eighteen) and Post M.D./DNB Senior Residents. Pediatric & Neonatal Department at SDMH is the oldest department recognized in the state for DNB training with excellent results. Eight of our students have either completed or are perusing Superspeciality programs in Pediatric Cardiology, Hemato-oncology, Neonatology, Neurology and Intensive Care. Almost all of the alumni of DNB program are established Pediatricians in Rajasthan & outside. The hospital has been regularly conducting conferences, CMEs and workshops to train and share the knowledge and experience of its faculty with the Pediatricians of state of Rajasthan and beyond. These include regular Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP), Pediatric Life Support courses (PALS), Pediatric EEG training and Pediatric Epilepsy training courses, thalassemia workshops and yearly thalassemic parents support group meeting. The Dept. of Pediatrics and Neonatal in SDMH is the oldest Pediatric department among private hospitals in Rajasthan. Pediatric Care Intensive Unit at SDMH was also the first dedicated Pediatric ICU in private hospitals. SDMH was also first in starting neonatal ventilation and have continuous reno renal transfusion in pediatric patient in Rajasthan. It is the only department in Rajasthan to have continuous EEG monitoring in paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
